Ransomware on the rise

Many of us, (hopefully) rely on some form of Virus protection for our computers whether at the office, at home, or both. While many Anti-Virus software vendors claim a re-assuringly high rate of success, the reality is that most are only effective 45%-65% of the time. To make matters worse, most of us now roam the digital world on our phones and tablets, which we (wrongly) think of as immune. All devices that connect to the internet are targets. Yes, even Amazon’s Alexa, smart light bulbs, and other IoT devices can be compromised.

In the corporate world, a Virus outbreak is disastrous and can have impact ranging from annoying to loss of the ability to function. Companies who can’t work, lose money. Remediation usually means reverting to a previous version of your system from a backup (hopefully you have them). This too costs a lot of money, an average of $6000. For a huge company that may not seem like a lot, but for a small company or start-up, it’s devastating.

These days, there are new forms of Viruses called Ransomware. Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock somewhere you’ve probably heard of it.  As if Viruses weren’t malicious enough, Ransomware not only infects your devices and stops you from working, it can actually encrypt your files and, as the name implies, make you pay a ransom to get them back. Ouch. If you believe in a higher power, only they can help you if you get hit and worse yet,  it spreads across your network.

So what are we to do?

Luckily, Cisco has you covered with its 3-pronged solution: Ransomware Quick Prevention Bundle.

Cisco is a large part of the fabric of the internet and no stranger to network security, read more about their efforts here.  Cisco and ZOOR can help you implement this bundle so you can sleep peacefully at night.
